Rudder

A flat blade or hydrofoil mounted beneath the hull that controls a yacht's direction by deflecting water flow. Charter guests encounter the rudder through the wheel or tiller during steering, and skippers explain its role in maintaining course and maneuvering. Rudder effectiveness depends on water flow—it becomes sluggish at very low speeds, making alternative steering methods like bow-thrusters essential for tight docking situations.
