Autopilot

An electronic system that automatically steers a yacht to a preset compass heading or GPS waypoint, maintaining course without manual helm input. Charter guests encounter autopilot on longer passages where it reduces crew fatigue and improves precision. While autopilot handles steering, the watchkeeper must monitor course, weather, and other traffic; it cannot replace active navigation or recognize hazards. Modern charter yachts typically feature integrated autopilot with chartplotter compatibility.
