Radar is a navigation and collision-avoidance system that uses radio waves to detect objects at sea, displaying them on a screen in real time. Guests typically encounter it on larger yachts, particularly during night sailing or poor visibility conditions. The system helps the skipper detect land, other vessels, and weather formations ahead. On modern chartered yachts, radar often integrates with the chartplotter and AIS for comprehensive situational awareness. Radar operation requires training and is typically managed by the skipper.
