VHF radio
VHF radio is a radio communication system operating on Very High Frequency (156-162 MHz) for short-range maritime communication. Charter guests encounter VHF radios on virtually all bareboat and crewed vessels for contacting marinas during check-in, communicating with other boats, obtaining weather updates, and emergency distress calls. Many jurisdictions require operators to hold a VHF endorsement such as the RYA VHF SRCR certificate. Proper radio protocol and channel discipline are essential for maritime safety and legal compliance.
